About Singapore

The Republic of Singapore, the heart of Southeast Asia, is an island-country made up of 63 islands between Malaysia and Indonesia. Founded as a British trading colony in 1819, Singapore is a parliamentary republic today. Between the absolutely stunning skyline and the continuously growing subway system you can find a high bandwidth of cultural influences such as Chinese, Malaysian and Indian shapes. The English name Singapore is derived from the Malay word Singapura, which means Lion City. This modern city is famous for its huge variety of food, the shimmering nightlife and multifaceted possibilities for shopping. As a technically advanced and well-educated city Singapore is the springboard into the Asian world.

Official languages in Singapore are English, Tamil, Chinese and Malay.

The city has a tropical rainforest climate without distinctive seasons. Uniform temperature lies between 23 and 32 degrees Celsius with an extremely high humidity of some 90%.
